About Hoodrat

Founded in 1996, Hoodrat Productions is best known for being owned & operated by independent hip-hop artist Naztee. There are now 51 official Hoodrat Productions releases.

Since its inception in the mid 90s, the Hoodrat Family has released a whole slew of independent, self-recorded and produced albums.

The original line-up that Hoodrat Productions had featured the Wu-Troy Clan (Naztee, Kev-O the Tracksmith, and MSG; then known as DJ Troy, Krayzie Troy, and Lil' Troy, respectively), Big Nate, and Creep Dogg.

The first release was 1996's Wu-Troy Clan E.P., Never Touch Us. The E.P. led directly into the 1997 Wu-Troy Clan full-length, self-titled LP.

As a solo act, Naztee, or DJ Troy, released his first record, Give Props, in 1998. The 15-track LP showed great advancement from the prior releases. Naz also produced and was featured on 1999's Dr. K aka Kevo's debut and only E.P., Thug 'Til I Die, appearing, for the first time, as Loc Dogg.

A name change was most definitely a high priority following the Give Props album, and was quickly made. Given that he was such a fan of the Wayans Brothers and their films, he took on the monicre of Loc Dogg, from the film Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood. Starting in ’98, and continuing through into 2000, a ton of tracks were written and 19 were chosen for 2000′s Loced Out. The album was by head and shoulders ahead of anything previously recorded and led well into 2003′s Legendary and 2005′s Have It All.

2007 came quickly and led to a brand new sound and a brand new endeavour. Loc, now dubbed as PIMP Naztee by partner in Rhyme, Sho*Shott, released a new mixtape project. The 27-track Tha Loced Out Mixtape vol. 1 brought a lot of attention to the 25 year old emcee and began a trail of local destruction.

By far the biggest year for releases by Hoodrat Productions as a label was 2008. Naz himself released three LPs, Tha Sound of Realnezz, Thugg’z Intuition, and Kriminal Tiez, a second mixtape, Tha Loced Out Mixtape vol. 2, contributed the bulk of the tracks to a compilation album entitled Str8 Gangstafied, and produced the vast majority of E-Bone’s debut record, Just Me.

Deal Wit Dis, the eighth full length solo record in Naztee’s arsenal, was released in 2009, as was a duo LP with E-Bone entitled Storm B4 Da Calm. Eastside Souljah, the youngest member of the Hoodrat team, also released two albums in 2009, Tha Next Move and My Mind, and both were produced by the LA Kingz, better known as Naztee, Kev-O & MSG.

But the real news of 2009 was the release of Naztee’s first professionally recorded album, Sinister Sound. The album was engineered by Tim Feswick of Feswick Productions. All sixteen tracks were self-produced and the very talented Molly Thomason was featured on the track “Pressure.”

Following the release of Sinister Sound’s first single “Tha Name Iz Naztee” becoming a permanent fixture on local radio station CJLS, Naz was immediately back in Feswick Productions to record a follow-up E.P. entitled Martial Law. The predominately political record also yielded a single called “Stay Low” which also enjoyed moderate airplay on CJLS. The E.P. also led to the first collaborations with new member of Hoodrat Productions, Wint James.

Near the end of 2010, Naz hit the studio once again to record a new LP. Livewire is a double album with an astounding 38 tracks. Features from California heavyweight Shade Sheist, Sufferahsmusic, Jeanine Smith, Kristen Hatt, Wint James, and Tim Feswick, and production from Naz himself, Kev-O, MSG, DJT Productions, and German Lopez aka Genycis led to a much different sound on this album. Livewire is currently being printed and should be out very shortly.

On September 20 of 2010, Naz pulled a mind-blower by opening up a local show for two heavy metal heavyweights in the area, Drawn & Quartered and Demons. The show was monumental in that it was the very first concert thrown by Yarmouth Metal, brainchild of Nick Dugas and Jeff Clairmont. The show also produced a 3-track E.P. entitled Live at the End of Summer Meltdown.

Spawning from the live metal show, Naztee got to work on a 4-track E.P. with heavy metal band Illusion of Security. The genre-smashing tracks featured Naz rapping, and surprisingly screaming, over instrumentals laid by the group. Sleep Is For the Weak gained enough attention that the crew has decided to work together again in the very near future on a new endeavor.

Eastside Souljah's third release, Pass Da Torch, was released nearing the end of 2010, and featured production and lyrical contributions from both Naztee and MSG.

2010 also saw the release of the Naztee LP Scrapz. These tracks were originally written with the intention of being used on the Rhyme Zone E.P., but were dropped due to an overflow of tracks. Production on Scrapz came from Naztee, Wint James, and MSG, and features include Sufferahsmusic, Vin Dog, and Lil' Nate.

In April of 2012, the Hoodrat Productions familia welcomed its newest Cartel members, Bud Ogden and Bill Crowell, together known as Balky. With them, the duo brought their own arsenal of previously-released music, all of which is now distributed through Hoodrat Productions.

In early July of 2012, Naztee & Wint James teamed up on a collaboration LP entitled Recongize Truth, which featured 16 tracks, all of which were produced by Wint. The bulk of the lyrical game was provided by Naz, who also pinched in with the post-production and sampling work on the album. Wint James, as Already Dead Inside, would also go on to release his first solo demo record, The Anarchist, on August 12. The album featured very little vocals, but some amazing guitar skills.

In August of 2012, Bud Ogden released his latest album The Antagonist. The record was his sixth as a solo act, and even featured a track, Behavioural Problems, which was co-produced by Naztee.

On his 30th birthday, the 30th of October, 2012, Naztee released the third instalment of Tha Loced Out Mixtape. The album featured 23 tracks and features from Suga Free and Young Brown, as well as a track produced by Wint James.

On February 12, 2013, the Hoodrat Productions compilation, Naztee prezentz... Hoodrat Mafia: Da Kompilation vol. II was released. The record features appearances and production from the likes of Already Dead Inside, Illusion of Security, E-Bone, Bud Ogden, Dark Halo, Eastside Souljah, Desmond "Sho*Shott" Doucette, Jeanine, BadGuy, MSG, Genycis, Shyne Beats, and of course Naztee.

April 2, 2013, marked the release of Naztee's second installment in the Martial Law series. Martial Law II was this time a full-length record, and featured appearances and production from Ian Nickerson of Illusion of Security, Wint James of Already Dead Inside, Genycis, Team RnB & MSG. The album was a hit online and garnered many views on Naztee's YouTube channel as well.

On the 30th of August, 2013, Hint, the latest, and possibly greatest, release by Bud Ogden was released. 16 tracks of experimental magic. The album received a ton of download action within the first two weeks and has become one of the most prominent albums in Bud's large collection right off the bat.

September of 2013 saw three Hoodrat Mafia members drop albums. September 10, Naztee released a Double E.P. entitled Rhyme Zone/Hoodrat Radio Exclusives. Features and production on the album come from Bud Ogden, Da BadGuy, Sufferahsmusic, Kris Bourque of Oceans Will Rise, MSG, Genycis, Team RnB & DJT Productions.

On September 24, Dylan Storms, the latest recruit to the Hoodrat Family, released his debut, simply entitled The Mixtape. The record was recorded and mixed by The Real-Deal DJ X-Treme and featured appearnces from RDX, Jon Boy & Naztee. A wide range of topics and hard-hitting beats made this young MCs debut a local success.

On Friday the 13th of September, MSG released a 2-disc, 42 track production compilation featuring tracks from 2003-2013. Takin' Ova features tracks from Naztee, E-Bone, Jeanine & Eastside Souljah from many albums over the past decade-plus.

On New Year's Eve, the brink of falling into 2014, Naztee dropped his latest endeavour, a 15-track LP entitled Seven17een. The album featured production from Naz himself, Genycis, Dollars Tha Producer, as well as V-Smoove. The album also produced a video entitled "We The Ones" which features the latest member of the Hoodrat Productions family, Jon-Boy.

On February 6, 2014, Corona Australis released its debut E.P. Aurora. A combination of a number of influences such as black metal, power metal and thrash metal. Corona Australis' first official release features 6 tracks with intrikit guitar riffs, calming celestial synth and pads and glorified brass all to create an epic journey from The Desolation of Ares, to the calming Dawning and peaceful In The Comfort Of Eversleep. There's no question that this album truly marks the beginning of something Yarmouth's never heard before.

In late April, 2014, Dylan Storms released a bit of a teaser, an E.P. entitled Violent Resurgance, which is a prelude to the upcoming LP Anti-Saint. The six-track E.P. is some of his most powerful work yet!

Hypocritia, aka Naztee & Bud Ogden, released their debut LP, Theme of the Dream, on May 7, 2014. A very experimental album, TOTD featured two verses from Jon-Boy, with production handled solely by Naz & Bud. The first single, "Poup of Greople," told a tantalizing tale of Yarmouth's mentality towards the return of their ferry service.

Two new members joined the Hoodrat  family in mid-2004, as Summerside, Prince Edward Island's young game spitter Diverse, and Yarmouth's newest acoustic gem Nick Pothier were entered into the ranks. The crew has definitely been diversifying and moving in many new directions at once.

Real Deal Xtreme dropped his debut record, Little King, in 2014. The album had collaborations with Naztee, Jon-Boy, and Dylan Storms.

The Hypocritia crew got together for another endeavour later on in the year, dropping the funky and experimental album, Way of the Future. The album was probably the most diverse in the Naztee catalogue.

Just when things were looking to be on a real high, seemingly irreconcilable personal differences between Naz & Bud Ogden led to what looked to be the demise of Hypocritia in early 2015. However, Naz took it upon himself to find a replacement for Bud, and named Hoodrat Mafia family member Jon-Boy as the newest Hypocrite in late March of 2015.

During this time, Naztee also released Naztee Prezentz... INVASION: Da Kompilation vol. III, which once again showcased the talents of all of the Hoodrat Productions squad.

On July 13, 2015, Naztee released his second live E.P., entitled Live in Dartmouth. The E.P. was completely recorded via a Samsung Galaxy S5, and the only edits to the album were the splitting of the tracks. This was the first live show Naz had performed in quite some time, as his time and effort had been geared more towards writing/production, and family.

Jon-Boy completed his debut mixtape, Hall of Fame, in September of 2015, about a month prior to Naztee releasing a solo Hypocritia record entitled Season of the Sinister.
